The finalists are the Fiat 500, Ford Mondeo, Kia Cee'd, Mazda 2, Mercedes C-Class, Nissan Qashqai and the Peugeot 308. The winner will be announced on November 19th. My money goes on the 500! ;-)
Saab will enhance its range in 2010 with the 9-1, a new entry-level model that will compete in the premium hatch segment against the BMW 1-Series and the Audi A3. The new model will be heavily inspired from the Aero-X concept. The 9-1 will be built on GM’s updated Delta platform sharing many components with the next generation Opel / Saturn Astra.
The next generation european Honda Accord / Acura TSX, will be based on the Accord Tourer Concept. The production version will be shown at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The Type-S model will have 260bhp. Production should start by the end of 2008, as a 2009 model year.
The next-gen Mazda 3 test mule has been spotted. The car is supposed to be coming in 2009. The future 3 will sport a more aggressive look, similar to the one found on the new Mazda 6. It will be based on the Ford Focus C1 platform, making the new model longer and wider.
Ford will be building the new Fiesta (based designwise on the Verve concept study) and the ugly Kuga SUV at the new newly purchesed Romanian plant from Craiova.
BMW prepares for the new 7 Series' launch somewhere by mid 2008. The CS Concept study may suggest some design cues for the new model. A BMW M7 may be a possibility.
Audi plans a new model wich will be placed between the A6 and the A8, in the model range. This new car will be a 4-door coupe, made to compete with the Mercedes CLS, and the future CS Concept based car (also a 4-door coupe) from BMW, wich will be placed higher than the 7 Series. The Audi A7 is expected to be released sometime in 2010.
The Clubman makes its way to German dealers from November the 10th. Although I find this car interesting, with its awkward rear styling and overpriced tag, the new Mini Clubman might become a bestseller and a fan favourite. :) The Clubman Cooper S has a 175bhp-Turbo engine. 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, a top speed of 224 km/h. Its price starts from 23.900 euro in Germany. A turbo-Diesel (Cooper D, 115bhp), is available, that starts from 21.900 euro and a petrol engine with 120 bhp from 19.900 euro.
Volkswagen has announced the Tuareg R50. It will be one of the most powerful SUVs in the world. The engine is based on a V10 TDI. More details to come soon.
The legendary motorcycle firm, Harley-Davidson will enter the Romanian market for the first time. The American producer will distribute its products through the ATS company, the company whose main shareholder is none other than Romania's prime minister, Catalin Popescu Tariceanu. ATS also distributes in Romania Citroen vehicles. A Harley in Romania will cost between 6.000 and 20.000 dollars.
Former DaimlerChrysler has been renamed Daimler AG, after the recent split-up from Chrysler. The car division, composed of the Mercedes, Smart and Maybach names, has been renamed Mercedes-Benz Cars, to honor founder Carl Friedrich Benz.
Alfa Romeo is pondering on weather to produce a small B-segment 2 door coupe, based on the Grande Punto, with Alfa Romeo mechanical components. Designwise, the car should be amix between Brera and the upcoming 149.
Seat is testing an early mule in the Swiss Alps for their upcoming saloon. The car is based on the previous generation Audi A4, although it is still a very modern platform, Audi has no more use for it.
Alfa Romeo boss, Antonio Baravelle wants to revive the Duetto model. The Duetto is an iconic car. Alfa's owe's much of its success to the 1967 movie "The Graduate", in wich Dustin Hoffman drives one of these babies. In the USA, the car was named Alfa Romeo Graduate. The new model is supposed to be a small, stylish, compact,low, 2 seater, premium-packaged model, but affordable, for younger buyers. Baravelle wants to celebrate its centenary, in 2010 with this model. This car may be one of Fiat plan to revive successful past models. Looking forward to it!
As Fiat did with their new 500, Alfa Romeo wants to create a buzz around its next-to-come supermini. Sothey're having an online competition were the public will name the future Alfa "Junior". The contest is open to residents in Italy, Germany, France, England, Spain and Japan. The big prize in a brand new Alfa Romeo Spider. Along with anouncing the competition, Alfa released some new sketches of the their next vehicle. It will be a 3 door coupe, taking its styling cues from the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Can't wait for this car! ;-)
